What We’ve Been Up To

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:   May 30, 2014, Kyle, Texas – FOR THE LOVE OF GO WRAPS UP ANOTHER YEAR OF FITNESS CLUB AT NEGLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND PULLS OFF SUPER SUCCESSFUL NEGLEY 5K/3K/1K. Fitness Club met every Wednesday night, rain or shine, from September to May. More than 40 individuals attended over the course of the year, some from Negley and Plum Creek, and some from neighboring communities. The club is open to all ages with a focus on full family participation in free weekly workouts. Participants are encouraged to attend whenever they are able, with no set number of sessions or age limits. Sessions include simple stretching before and after a workout that comprises an approximate 1-3 mile distance workout and a healthy snack. Each week, concepts are added that include strength training with body weight, further distances, water and food nutrition challenges, and goal setting. Concepts and basic objectives include: safety, endurance, sprinting, interval training, pacing, refueling, partner running, circuit and hill training, teamwork, road racing, tracking mileage, observing healthy eating and appropriate water consumption. This year’s Negley 5K/3K/1K event, which was the fourth annual race day, welcomed more than 380 participants, 50 volunteers, and at least 200 spectators on March 1. Many families participated together in one or more of the three events.  A representative from U.S. Road Running attended the event and commented with surprise at how many students participated and how well they maintained their pace.
